Welcome to Project Random…

Where we’re embracing fundamental truths about causality while trying to constructively turn our dysfunctional political system on its head…

Whatever is happening in our political system, it’s not working. Let’s challenge ourselves to think outside the box and make it better.

How can we reimagine the possibilities of politics? How might the concept of randomness help to address some of the deepest issues plaguing our democracy in a digital age (i.e. narcissism, corruption, polarization, oversimplification, short-sightedness, ineffectiveness)? How could our democratic process be strengthened, diversified, and transformed into a representative system that can constructively addresses real world concerns by embracing a fundamental truth about reality: that most of what happens or doesn’t isn’t determined by intention and choice, but by randomness and chance. What if admitting how little we understand about our own minds and the world is the first step towards actually changing it?

With that backdrop, we are trying to set in motion locally-driven, grassroots changes to how we govern ourselves that uproot the pathologies intrinsic to our current political system and embrace randomness as an effective and equalizing civic decision-making mechanism.

We don’t pretend to have any answers to the hard question of how to govern ourselves in a way that actually makes sense. But we know this much: it’s worth a shot trying to create something better from a place of deep questioning and humility, in contrast to the false certainty and deep arrogance shaping our current system.
